Community Focus on Opiates
Prevention and Treatment Strategies for Teens and Young Adults

 The drug landscape is changing dramatically for our young people.  Learn about the latest trends in abuse along with prevention and treatment strategies from leading experts in the field.  Two keynote speakers, Dr. Ted Parrin and Russ Godwin, spoke to a sold-out crowd on Friday, October 28, 2011 at the Radisson Inn and Suites in Cleveland.

Dr. Ted Parran is a  nationally recognized expert on substance abuse, addiction and treatment.  He established the Addiction Fellowships at CWRU School of Medicine and teaches in the Addiction Psychiatry Fellowship program.  He is certified by the American Society on Addiction medicine and his group practice provides medical directorship services to several Substance Abuse treatment programs and consultation services in Cleveland, including: St. Vincent Charity's Rosary Hall, the Cleveland Treatment Center, the Salvation Army's Harbor Light, Windsor-Laurelwood Center for Behavioral Health and GlenBeigh.
 
Russ Goodwin, LPC, LICDC, is a highly experienced professional with a unique set of skills as a therapist and trainer.  Mr. Goodwin works extensively with both individuals and corporations at IMPACT Solutions.  In private practice, Mr. Goodwin counsels adolescents, young adults, and adults who are dealing with chemical dependency and other addictions, co-dependency, adolescent disorders, family, parenting, and relationship issues, adjustment disorders, abuse, anxiety, depression and anger/behavioral management issues.  On the corporate side, Mr. Goodwin works directly with schools, businesses, and community organizations regionally and nationally to set-up/deliver trainings, in-services, and presentations.
  
Dr. Paran will present the morning keynote address, entitled "Substance Abuse and Addiction in Adolescents and Young Adults - The Emergence of Opioids."  Morning breakout sessions include:
1)  Opiate Addiction Treatment -- Detox, Blockers and Maintenance - Dr. Ted Parran
2)  Women and Opiates - Dr. Nan Nelson
3)  School Interventions and Resources - Mike Matoney, Joe Spiccia, Doug Wenta, Kathy Winzig
 
Kim Fraser, Executive Director of the Lake County ADAMHS Board and Ormin Hall, Director of the Opio Department of Alcohol and Drug Services (ODADAS) will be the luncheon speakers.
 
Russ Goodwin will present the afternoon keynote address, entitled "Parking the Ambulance at the Top of the Cliff."  Afternoon breakout sessions include:
