Crossroads Receives National Accreditation From
Council on Accreditation
Crossroads has been awarded a continuing four-year national accreditation by the Council on Accreditation (COA).
“In layman’s terms this is the equivalent of the Good Housekeeping seal of approval,” explained Crossroads CEO Wayne W. Lindstrom. “COA accreditation, which covers all of our more than 35 programs, certifies that our services are of the highest quality and meet national standards of excellence.”
It marks the second four-year accreditation awarded to Crossroads by COA. In announcing the reaccreditation, the international accrediting organization stated: “COA’s commitment to maintaining the highest level of standards and quality improvement is designed to identify providers that have set high performance standards for themselves and have made a commitment to their constituents to deliver the highest quality services. COA is proud to recognize Crossroads: Lake County Adolescent Counseling Service as one of these outstanding providers.”
The COA reaccreditation process involves a detailed review and analysis of both an organization’s administrative operations and its service delivery practices. All are “measured” against national standards of best practice. These standards emphasize services that are accessible, appropriate, culturally responsive, evidence based, and outcomes-oriented. In addition, they confirm that the services are provided by a skilled and supported workforce and that all individuals are treated with dignity and respect.
COA explained that because it reviews and reaccredits the entireorganization, not just specific programs, consumers can have confidence in the credibility, integrity and achievement of all Crossroads programs.
Ribbon Cutting Ceremony
at Early Childhood Services Center on May 14
Crossroads officially opened its new 18,000 square-foot Early Childhood Services Center in Painesville with a ribbon cutting at on Friday, May 14.
More than 125 people gathered to tour the newly renovated facility, the former Colony Lumber showroom at 1083 Mentor Ave., which allows us to consolidate its services for children up to age five in one significantly larger building. Those programs have been split among existing Crossroads facilities in Painesville and Mentor. A major portion of the building is devoted to the federally funded Early Head Start program, which currently serves 60 local children between the ages of one and three.
We are continuing to serve clients at our headquarters at 8445 Munson Road, Mentor. The new Painesville facility will have no impact on those continuing service.
“With this new facility, we will be able to better serve the behavioral health needs of children and families in the Lake County area,” explained Dr. Wayne Lindstrom, Crossroads CEO. “Our focus at this new Painesville site will be serving young children from birth to age five,” Lindstrom added. “With the additional space, we will be able to expand our programming.”
The $641,000 renovation project was designed by Herschman Architects and built by JJO Construction. The building was purchased by Crossroads with help from a low-interest loan from the USDA Rural Development program. The USDA is using American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funding for this project. Additional support has been provided by grants from the USDA and Early Head Start, and a “cy pres” award from Painesville law firm Dworken and Bernstein, Co., LPA.
The Early Childhood Services Center is already in operation. The former Crossroads site at 41 East Erie Street, Painesville, is now closed.
“We have many clients from the Painesville area and this expansion will allow us to improve existing programs and develop new ones,” Dr. Lindstrom said. Potential projects include model daycare and pre-school programs that can serve both the children of Crossroads employees and the community while providing a training site for local pre-school and daycare providers.
“We appreciate all of the support for the project that we have received from City of Painesville officials, the USDA, and the community at large,” added Mike Crislip, Crossroads board president.

The Phantom Performed Benefit for Crossroads on April 10, 2010
Crossroads Carousel Cabaret Featuring Franc D’Ambrosio is a smash hit!
“Crossroads Carousel Cabaret Featuring Franc D’Ambrosio” on Saturday, April 10, 2010 at Quail Hollow was a smash hit with 189 people in attendance (vs. 154 in 2009). Franc gave a superb performance of the cabaret version of "Franc D'Ambrosio's Broadway,” an array of Broadway classics including songs from The Phantom of the Opera, Les Miserables and many more Broadway favorites. The show weaves funny, warm hearted stories of growing up in the Bronx, how he was cast in Phantom and in Godfather III as the opera-singing Corleone son. D’Ambrosio was also available at a post-event reception to autograph his latest CD.
We raised over $11,000 (compared to $9,500 in 2009) on our silent auction and raffles. This year we had 25 sponsors for a total of $22,625 vs. 16 sponsors for a total of $13,750 in 2009. Thirteen of this year’s sponsors are new. We had six patron gifts for a total of $900. We received over 100 silent auction items conservatively estimated at over $10,000 in value.
Ron Toivonen was awarded a Crossroads Lifetime Service Award for his commitment to Crossroads as a volunteer and trustee, and honorary trustee.
We have had nothing but compliments on the event. We drew guests from as far away as Toledo.
(All figures are preliminary and final proceeds won’t be known for some time.)
