Chances are that someone you know is having serious difficulty coping with everyday pressures. One out of every four of us will seek the services of a mental health professional at some point in our life, and that's good because ignoring a problem doesn't make it go away. At Crossroads we recognize that acknowledging a problem and then seeking help can be one of life's most difficult but important steps. Emotional difficulties and substance abuse do not always happen to other people. When it happens to you and your family, Crossroads can help.

Crossroads, Lake County Adolescent Counseling Center

Counseling / Psychotherapy Services:

Our professional staff of social workers and counselors offers individualized outpatient treatment programs for children and adolescents whose concerns range from mild situational stress to serious emotional and behavioral problems. Among the problems that we address are: behavioral disorders, depression and suicide, adjustment to life cycle changes such as divorce, death and blending families, anger management, family violence, sexual abuse and offending, eating disorders and addictions, attention deficit disorder, attachment and bonding issues and others.

Family members participate in therapy and can help make treatment a positive and rewarding experience for all. When appropriate, we coordinate services with other support and community networks important to the child and family such as school, health care providers, human services or juvenile justice.

The first step to getting treatment is meeting with a therapist for a diagnostic assessment. This process gathers information and helps us recommend a treatment approach that best meets the needs of the child and family. An array of child, adolescent and parent treatment groups are available. Evaluations, individual and family therapy, parental and professional consultation / education are all part of what we offer..

Extended outpatient programming usually requires a specialized assessment and is available for the following concerns:

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)

is best treated with a coordinated effort between medical evaluation, behavior management and skill development. Our approach blends these interventions and works with parent and child together.

Anger Management

treatment for aggressive and violent youth helps the child and family understand patterns of violence, and its impact on their lives. Developing alternatives to violent behavior so the child can live safely within the family and community is accomplished by focusing on building the child's strengths, resiliency and relationship skills.

Chemical Dependency

and especially alcoholism continues to be a leading disease in our country and many children are affected every day, putting health and life at risk. We can help people change behaviors and attitudes and achieve a satisfying life without reliance on drugs and alcohol. Our treatment program includes an assessment, individual and group treatment, aftercare services and ongoing participation in self-help groups like Alcoholics Anonymous and Al-Anon.

Attachment & Bonding

must happen for children to develop healthy, trusting relationships in which give and take is possible. sometimes this important process does not occur or is broken in a child's early years and causes serious problems as the child develops. Parents and child will be helped to understand the dynamics of this impairment, risk factors, and symptoms and will receive treatment geared to develop social skills, trust and healthy relationships.

Sexual Offending

treatment requires parental participation and education about sexual assault, motivations, patterns and victimization. This is often a long-term process focused on helping the offender take full responsibility for their behavior, develop empathy for others and develop healthy patterns of behavior. It includes group therapy along with individual and family treatment.
